Benefit Administration for the Self-Employed™ (BASE®) provides benefit administration for small to medium sized companies. 80% owned by HealthMarkets, BASE® opened for business in April 1999 and is located in Adel, Iowa. BASE® formed a strategic partnership with HealthMarkets (formerly known as UICI) as a vehicle to differentiate the HealthMarkets field force from their competition. This partnership was forged to revolutionize employee benefit plans with a renewed emphasis on quality customer service, and all started with the Section 105 BASE® HRA. Since that time, BASE® has become established as a leading employee benefit administrator.

From the beginning, BASE® has focused on the self-employed business owner, and is now committed to serving small to mid-size employers. Initially BASE® started with one product, and today has a host of additional products available, which include:

  • 105 HRA
  • SamplePay®
  • 125 Cafeteria Plan (FSA, DCAP, POP)
  • Excepted Benefits
  • Choice Incentive Plan

This list will continue to grow, as BASE® keeps expanding the focus from targeting businesses with 1-3 employees to mid-sized businesses, a niche that has often been neglected in the health care industry. As the industry has continued to evolve, BASE® has been dedicated to its clients and realized the need for comprehensive benefit administration programs. As a result, BASE® will provide more options for employers to help control the rising cost of health benefits. More options allow for the customization needed in providing access to affordable and quality health care for business owners.
